JH Stars race in Monon Athletic Conference Championships

The Western Boone Junior High Cross Country team competed Tuesday evening at the Monon Athletic Conference Championships at Cascade, where all eight conference schools came together. It was a hot one for running, but on a course that was perfect for cross country, and the Stars made the most of it with strong performances across the board. The boys team placed 3rd overall, led by an impressive race from Ari Smith who finished 3rd individually with a time of 11:18. Following him with more impressive performances were Griffin Johanson in 14th at 12:54, Hayden Trenary in 18th at 13:11, Wyatt Delp in 20th at 13:14, and Liam Sartin in 21st at 13:16. Gabriel Threlkeld was right behind in 22nd at 13:22, giving the Stars remarkable depth with six boys finishing inside the top 25. The girls' team placed 5th overall in a competitive field. Leading the way was Bristol McCord, who placed 9th overall in 14:28. She was followed by Hayley Trojnar in 16th with a time of 15:03, and Alisha Manning in 25th at 15:51. Rounding out the scoring were Skyler Yarger in 26th at 15:54 and Lydia Boggs in at 17:50. The girls' Stars showed how strong their group of five is with three girls finishing in the top 25. The Stars JH cross country team handled the heat with determination, and the whole squad looked impressively strong. With six boys and three girls finishing in the top 25 of the conference, the Stars showed just how far their hard work has carried them this season. This strong showing at the conference sets them up with confidence and momentum as they head into the state meet on Saturday.
