The Western Boone 7th grade girls basketball team defended their home court last night with a gritty 31-27 win over North Montgomery Chargers. The Stars were a little shorthanded last night with sickness but they fought hard and made the best of it. Defense got the Stars started holding the Chargers to 0 points in the first quarter and taking the lead 8-0. The Chargers responded in the 2nd with a big quarter of their own but the Stars headed into half up 12-9. The Stars showed toughness in the 2nd half fighting off some injuries and once again making the best of it. Kaity Gott and Molly Rausch played tough defense and battled the boards all night. Kenzie Denning continued to improve and played hard all night. Ady Nicley led in scoring with 21, Molly Rausch showed continued improvement offensively with 8, Abigayle Humphrey added 2. 8th Grade Girls Basketball Defeat Chargers The Stars played their most complete game of the season Thursday night. The defense held North Montgomery to 21 points. All of the Western Boone starters scored on offense. Mady Monks dominated the boards. Cadence Paris was a consistent offensive threat and led a full-court press that gave the Chargers issues all night. WeBo had open shots, but struggled to convert early. Paris had nine points, including two three pointers, in the first half to give the Stars a 14-12 lead at the break. The second half saw the offense come to life. WeBo slowed the pace and dominated out of set plays. Ashton Pelley had a pair of buckets. Brooklyn Wagner got in on the scoring as well. Wagner matched up well against North Montgomery’s size all evening. Beating them with her speed and athleticism. Lyla Kinsler contributed with several steals, assists and a bucket. Monks had a career first double-double. She score ten points on rebound put-backs and going 4 for 6 from the free throw line. The Stars won, pulling away 35-21. WeBo is in action next Wednesday at Crawfordsville.
