The Sparkplugs jumped out to an early 11-2 lead with their trapping defense and transition offense. It would have been easy for the Stars to get discouraged and backdown. But that isn’t what this team is made of. The Stars settled into their offense, moved the ball efficiently, and started to score. Ashton Pelley connected on a three to ignite the team. The Stars cut the lead to 11-9 at the end of one. The teams traded buckets for much of the second quarter. Cadence Paris gave the Sparkplugs backcourt fits, rarely letting them establish their offense. Speedway maintained a 21-20 lead at the half. The defenses dominated much of the third quarter. Pelley once again connected on a three to give WeBo momentum heading into the fourth quarter. The Stars put the pedal down in the fourth. Brooklyn Wagner had a pair of layups as a result of good ball movement and assists from Mady Monks and Lyla Kinsler. Pelley stole an inbounds pass and converted it to a quick two points. WeBo won, pulling away, 37-30. The whole team played great defense to close out the game. The sparkplugs were limited to one bucket late. Pelley led the Stars with 12 points. Kinsler had 8. Paris 7, Wagner 6, Monks and Kensley Blankenship each had 2. 8th grade is back in action Thursday vs North Montgomery.
