The 7th girls basketball team traveled to Clinton Prairie Gophers last night and came away with a hard fought 31-28 win. Both teams struggled offensively in the first but the Gophers got things going in the second quarter and the Stars trailed 15-8 at half. The challenge at half was to be more aggressive defensively in the second half and the Stars responded with a big 3rd quarter. The stars held on defense and outscored the gophers to end the 3rd quarter tied at 19. The stars took over in the 4th controlling the pace and bringing home the win. Molly Rausch had several rebounds and held Clinton Prairie’s center scoreless in the second half. Ady Nicley led in scoring with 29, Katie Gott added 2. The 8th grade girls basketball team came up a little short on Monday evening losing to a solid Clinton Prairie squad 32-36. The team struggled to find their offensive rhythm in the first have against the Gophers match up zone, but faired much better in the second half cutting a 10 point halftime deficit to just 2 points early in the 4th quarter. The two teams traded baskets down the stretch and the Stars were just not able to come all the way back for the victory. Lyla Kinsler led the Stars offensively with 16 points and a great overall performance from start to finish. Mady Monks followed that up with her best offensive game of the season with 7, while also leading the team in rebounds. Other contributors were Caydence Paris with 4, Abigayle Humphrey with 2, Brooklyn Wagner with 2, and Estelle Walker with 1. The Lady Stars will be back in action this Wednesday, 1/29, at home against Clinton Central.
