Western Boone Jr. - Sr. High School

The Western Boone 8th grade girls basketball team traveled to North Putman for the 2nd round of the MAC tournament to take on the South Montgomery Mounties early Saturday morning. The Stars shook off a slow start offensively by getting after the Mounties on defense, creating fast break opportunities, and getting the offense going. The Stars defense only allowed 1 point in the first half, giving them a 14-1 lead at half. The Stars continued to control pace throughout the 2nd half with rebounds, steals and good ball movement cruising to a 36-13 victory. The Stars were lead in scoring by Ella Oakley with 17, Ady Nicley 11, Bryar King 6, and Avery Fields 2. With a victory in the 2nd round the Western Boone girls moved onto the championship to face the Frankfort Hotdogs. The Stars came out ready to play with the defense setting the tone. The Stars racked up several steals leading to extra offensive possessions. It took the Stars much of the 1st quarter to figure out the zone but ended with several attempts from free throw line and transition buckets. The Stars lead 12-6. In 2nd quarter the Stars continued to pressure the Hotdogs and knocked down some 3-point shots to take 20-11 lead at half. The 2nd half was once again all about the Stars defense, only allowing the Hotdogs 4 points in the 3rd quarter. The Stars offense stayed consistent in the 3rd and patient in the 4th. The Stars were lead in scoring by Ady Nicley 16, Ella Oakley 11, Bryar King 3. The Stars win the MAC championship 30-18.
