WeBo Cross Country teams compete in first meet of season

The High School Cross Country team traveled to Shelbyville Saturday to compete in their first meet of the season at the Jeremy Wright Memorial Small School invitational. The girls team finished third overall out of 32 schools repeating their performance from last year. Leading the Stars was Bailey Haag in 18th place in a time of 23:47 followed by Samantha Jones in 25th place in 24:15 minutes with Charlotte Stucky at 30th place in 24:26. In 39th and 44th place were Benny Parsons and Kate Higer with times of 24:59 and 25:19. Rounding out the field was Janelle Gearheart 93rd(29:02), Rosie Rogers 110th(31:12 )and Katherine Mateika 135th(38:15). The boy's team was led by Isaac Threlkeld finishing with a time of 20:26 and 59th place followed by Alex Crockett in 87th place with a 21:03 and Graham Cavins in at 21:50 (116th). Next in was Brayden Schick at 23:14 (159), Carter Hanna 23:36 (168), Lane Hardee 24:50 (182) and Kole Nelson completing his first 5k for Western Boone at 30:54 (217). Highlights for the day came from Kate Higer setting a lifetime personal best early in the season. Alex Crockett, Brawn Puckett, and Brayden Schick also had stong runs and finished taking several minutes off of their combined times from last year's Shelbyville competition. Bailey Haag, Samantha Jones, and Charlotte Stucky received ribbons for finishing in the top 30 of a total of 138 runners. The Stars will compete at the Harrison meet in Lafayette this Tuesday.
