The Stars Baseball team completed a conference sweep of Southmont Tuesday evening with a 10-1 victory; Monday the Stars won 6-0 at South. Pitching was the storyline of this series. Luke Jackson started game one and pitched 3.2 innings, never allowing a run, gave up only two hits, and struck out three batters. Bryce Kopriva came in to relieve L. Jackson and pitched 3.1 innings. Bryce gave the Stars a similar effort by pitching the final 3.2 innings; allowing zero runs, on one hit, with five strike outs. Jake Smith was the Player of the Game Monday night as he stepped up big in his DH role and provided two hits including two early RBIs which gave the Starts some breathing room. Tuesday, Jackson Grimes got the ball and pitched a complete game. Grimes allowed zero earned runs, recorded eight strike outs against just one walk. Heading into the season. Grimes, Kopriva, and Jackson were slated to anchor the pitching staff. The trio had their best combined week of the year and showed why their teammates and coaches have so much confidence in them. Tuesday’s win was a joint effort offensively. Gavin Hawkins and Luke Jackson lead the stat line with two hits each. This is the Stars first conference sweep since 2017, and the 12 regular season wins in the most in at least 20 years according to MaxPreps. However, this group is hungry for more and no one is content with what has been accomplished. The next challenge will be when the conference champion Bruins for Tri-West come to town Friday. The regular season comes to a close Saturday for the Stars as they travel to Speedway.
