The Western Boone Junior High Cross Country team traveled to Frankfort on a hot day to face Frankfort and Bethesda. Despite the conditions, the Stars dug deep and finished strong. Leading the way for the boys was Ari Smith, who finished 2nd overall with a time of 11:49. Smith went out strong, leading the first lap and even helping pace the Bethesda runner behind him, who was on pace to set a new school record. Despite a late challenge from the third-place runner, Ari found one last push to hold on to second place. Also scoring for the Stars were Griffin Johanson (13:35), Hayden Trenary (13:42), Liam Sartin (13:48, improving from his last race), and Wyatt Delp (13:49). Gabriel Threlkeld also cut time from his last meet, finishing in 14:35. For the Lady Stars, Hayley Trojnar led the team with a 7th place overall finish in 15:57. She was followed by Skylar Yarger (16:58, improving from her previous race), Alisha Manning (17:23, improving from her previous race), Bristol McCord (17:34), and Lydia Boggs (19:53). It was a tough day to race, but the Stars showed resilience and teamwork throughout the course. The team now looks forward to Saturday’s Miller Rock meet, a favorite among the runners.
