ZIONSVILLE - The Western Boone volleyball team was trying to claw back in their Boone County match-up with Zionsville on Tuesday night. The Eagles had won the opening two sets against the Stars, but saw WeBo jump out to a 17-11 lead and threaten to push the match into the fourth set. But Zionsville won the next five points, and closed the set on a 14-6 run to finish off a 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-23) win over the Stars. Western Boone head coach Abby Heide was happy with the adjustments her team was able to make throughout the match. While it was a little bit of a slow start, the Stars started to find a better rhythm as the match went on. "Especially in that third set, we were able to play a little bit of a faster game, which helped us build that lead," Heide said. "Unfortunately we got in a tough rotation and couldn't find our way out of it when they had a serving run. We are always telling the girls to just push one in the series so we can focus on the next point, but they just got us." The Stars saw their record fall to 3-3 on the season. Heide said the Stars have shown some good things, and can learn a lot from playing teams like Zionsville as they head into the next part of their schedule. "We are talking a lot about togetherness and staying together," Heide said. "This is a pretty young team and they are still learning each other as we continue to play the season. It's about celebrating every point, no matter what it is and everyone has to contribute to that. These matches are showing us what we need to work on, so we are better prepared especially for some of the bigger matches we have coming up. When we play teams like McCutcheon and Harrison, they are going to run a faster offense, so we have to get used to playing faster. Tonight, it took us too long to adjust to the competition. So we want to get into practice the next few weeks and practice a faster offensive tempo and we can get more into games like this." Western Boone is off until Sept. 2, when they travel to Greencastle for the Monon Athletic Conference match. Will Willems is the Sports Editor of the Lebanon Reporter.
