The Western Boone Boys Golf Team competed at Rivercrest Golf Course in the Covington Invite on Saturday. Looking to build off their best nine-hole score in two seasons this past Thursday, the Stars were able to do just that, posting a 372, beating their season goal of 380 and recording their best 18-hole team score in two years. They would finish 8th in the 13-team field. The Stars were led by Evan Terwiske who played a smooth and consistent round to shoot an 88. Luke LaGrange set a new team season low nine-hole score of 40, to card a 90 total. Ben Fortner was able to make a few improbable par or bogey saves on his way to 96, while Alex Thompson's 98 was a strong showing for only his second career 18-hole match. The Stars, who struggled to start the season, are finally getting into a rhythm at the midpoint. Their most recent team scores have shown their commitment to improvement. In the past week, they were able to best their opening 9-hole match score by a stirring 41 strokes, then followed it up by bettering their first 18-hole match score by an even more remarkable 56 strokes. It will be a busy week and an opportunity to keep tracking in the right direction as the Stars play two road matches, including tomorrow at Eagle Creek vs Covenant Christian, and finish the week at Conference on Saturday.
