May 5, 2015 was the last time Western Boone beat Tri-West in varsity baseball, that streak ended on Saturday April 26, 2025 as the Stars handed the Bruins their first conference loss of the season with an 8-4 victory! Levi Stewart started on the mound and was named Player of the Game. Stewart pitched 5.2 innings and allowed 4 earned runs while striking out 4. Owen Oakley entered the game in the sixth and with amazing poise recorded a much needed third out while throwing just two pitches. Beau Sawyer finished the game in the 7th inning. The freshman over came a couple of Bruin base runners and did not allow a run. Sawyer put an exclamation mark on the game with a huge strike out to end the contest! The defense played their cleanest game of the season and really played as their coaches knew that they could. Kahne Reid lead the defense with 5 very tough put outs. The middle infield duo of Gavin Hawkins and Owen Howe each had three put outs. The offense was lead by Gavin Hawkins and Quinn Westerfeld who each had three hits. Kiplinger, Kopriva, Sawyer and Stewart each contributed a hit as well. Kiplinger lead in the RBI category with 2, while Westerfeld, Kopriva, Sawyer, Stewart, and Nance each contributed an RBI as well. The win was the fourth out of four last week for the Stars. Webo currently sits at 7-5 overall and 3-2 in conference which puts them in a current tie for 3rd. Western Boone returns to action Monday at Clinton Prairie before hosting Danville Tuesday in this week’s Sagamore Conference match up.
