The Western Boone high school boy’s golf team dropped their opening match of the season to Frankfort at Frankfort Commons on Tuesday evening by a score of 184-225. Playing in high winds and tough conditions, the Stars top five were never able to get on track and had a frustrating and disappointing evening. Ben Fortner led the group with a solid 53, considering the conditions. Alex Thompson posted a 58 in his freshman varsity debut. A bright spot for the night was seeing improvement and more solid shots from some of the JV players returning from last season. Nathan Byrum’s 56 & Asher Foy’s 58 led the way for that group, matching the output of their varsity counterparts. The top portion of the JV roster will continue to look for more consistency to move their way up the depth chart and contend for varsity spots down the road. Things don’t get any easier for the Stars as they travel to Bear Slide on Thursday to face Hamilton Heights.
