The Varsity Baseball team traveled to North Montgomery on Tuesday evening to begin conference play. The Chargers came out on top by a final score of 8-7.  Gavin Hawkins singled on the first pitch of the game and then Quinn Westerfeld hit his first varsity home run on the second pitch of the game to put the Stars up 2-0 after two pitches! The Stars lead 3-0 after the top of the first. In the top of the second inning the first two batters were unable to reach base but then Westerfeld singled followed by Nance reaching by error. That set the stage for junior Layton Yancey to send a ball over the right-center field wall for his first varsity home run! After two innings the Stars had a 6-0 lead thanks to quality at bats and the homeruns by Westerfeld and Yancey. Quinn Westerfeld started on the mound for Webo and pitched 4.1 innings allowing just 3 hits, 1 earned run, and struck out 10. Western Boone's offense stalled after the second inning. The Chargers made a late surge with a few timely hits. Those hits hurt more due to an inability to execute on a few plays defensively for the Stars. 4 errors in the game was the most by a Stars defense since 2022. Easton Nance led in the hit column going 3 for 4, followed by Gavin Hawkins and Quinn Westerfeld who each went 2 for 4. Hits were also recorded by Sawyer, Stewart, Velazquez, and Yancey. The outcome was disappointing, especially after the 6-0 start to the game. However, this is a Stars team that is extremely young and the opportunity to learn from this game far outweighs the sting of it in the moment. Western Boone will get an opportunity to show if they can rebound quickly as the Chargers come to Western Boone this evening at 6:00 to finish the conference series.
