Western Boone Jr. - Sr. High School

On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, the Western Boone wrestling team went on the road to take on the Wolves of Parke Heritage. The match had important sectional seeding implications. The Stars rose to the occasion and put on a dominating performance, winning 55-15. The evening got started at 113lbs, with Jaxsyn Matthews unleashing a flurry of moves ending in the third period with a technical fall. Cale Scagnoli (120) kept things going with a first period pin over his opponent. Brayden Chambers (126) stepped in and accepted a forfeit from Parke Heritage to give the Stars a 17-0 lead. Webo continued to grow the lead with a first period pin by Jacob Anderson (132), followed by Isaiah Garland (138) winning by major decision. At 144lbs, Trey Fuston then made short work of his opponent, pinning his opponent in less than a minute, making the team score 33-0. One of the more exciting matches of the evening took place at 150lbs. Destin Caraballo Mercado withstood an onslaught of aggression to make it into the third period, though he was trailing 10-0. Undeterred, and with choice of starting position, Caraballo Mercado chose to start in the top position. The decision proved to be a good one, as he proceeded to turn his opponent and pin him in just 38 seconds, securing the come-from-behind victory and giving Webo a 39-0 lead. At 165lbs, Broden Wilson continued to show improvement with a patient 4-1 win over a strong opponent. The Stars’ winning streak stopped at nine matches, when David Puckett (175) and Heath Williams (190) ran into a couple of Parke Heritage hammers. Jacob Smith (215) got the Stars back on the winning track with a hard-fought 6-1 victory over his opponent. Isaac El-Shahat (285) controlled two and half periods, but unfortunately surrendered a lead in the third period and lost 5-8. Jackson Bloss (106) ended the match with a forfeit, giving the Stars the 55-15 victory. This coming Saturday, January 18, will be a busy day for the wrestlers. The junior varsity team will travel to Fishers High School to compete in the IHSW JV Regional. The varsity team will travel to North Montgomery to compete in the Sagamore Conference tournament. Conference wrestling action will start at 9:00am.
