On Saturday, January 11, 2025, the Western Boone wrestling team traveled to Zionsville to compete in five dual meets. The wrestling team saw some tough competition but managed to walk away with a 3-2 record on the day. Kameron Mikesell (157) was the only wrestler to emerge from the day with an unscathed record, winning all five of his matches. Webo first competed against a tough team from Whiteland. The Warriors bested the Stars, 63-12. Lincoln Rose (144) and Kameron Mikesell were the only two to win matches. Both won in dominant fashion, pinning their opponents. Next, the Stars battled a team from Lawrence North. This time the Stars had a better outcome, besting the Wildcats 39-31. Lincoln Rose, Destin Caraballo Mercado (150), Kameron Mikesell, David Puckett (175), Jacob Smith (215), Isaac El-Shahat (285), and Jaxsyn Mathews (113) were all able to secure victories for the Stars. Third in line for the Stars were the Eagles from Zionsville. The match has important sectional seeding implications. As a team, the Stars came up short, losing 21-47. All wrestlers wrestled tough, but only four were able to walk away with wins. Kameron Mikesell had little trouble with his opponent, pinning him in just over a minute. Isaac El-Shahat had one of the best wins of his career, pinning a stalwart opponent in the second period. Jackson Bloss (106) battled his way to a 15-8 win. Jaxsyn Mathews also showed his grit, pinning his opponent in the second period. The fourth meet of the day was a rematch with the Cascade Cadets. About a month ago, the Stars lost to the Cadets 22-57. This past Saturday, however, was a different story. Western Boone trounced Cascade 75-5. Jaxsyn Mathews, Heath Williams (190), and Isaac El-Shahat (285), each flipped the script on their opponents. Each of had been pinned in their previous match-ups, but each wrestler won by fall on Saturday. Other winning wrestlers for the Stars were Jackson Bloss, Cale Scagnoli (120), Jacob Anderson (126), Isaiah Garland (132), Trey Fuston (138), Lincoln Rose, Andres Morales (157), Kameron Mikesell, Broden Wilson, and Jacob Smith. The final dual of the day pitted the Richmond Red Devils against Western Boone. It was another dominate performance for the Stars as they won 60-12. Winning wrestlers were Kameron Mikesell, Broden Wilson, Heath Williams, Isaac El-Shahat, Jackson Bloss, Jaxsyn Mathews, Cale Scagnoli, Isaiah Garland, and Lincoln Rose. Western Boone will compete again on Wednesday, January 15, when they travel into the Wolves’ territory to take on Parke Heritage. Wrestling starts at 6:00pm.
