On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, the Western Boone Stars wrestling team hosted the Golden Eagles of Guerin Catholic. It was a one-sided dual meet that saw Webo lambaste an undermanned Guerin Catholic team 74-3. The victory improved Western Boone’s record to five wins and two losses. The meet started with Western Boone receiving three forfeits at 215, 285, and 106 before Jaxsyn Mathews squared off against his opponent at 113 pounds. Mathews got a first period takedown and was able to hang onto a small lead for the remainder of the match, winning 3-2. After another forfeit for the Stars at 120lbs, Daniel Ellinger stepped on the mat for the first time at 126lbs. Ellinger gave up a couple of takedowns but was able to fend off several pinning combinations from his opponent. The Golden Eagle had choice to start the third period and chose to start in the neutral position. Ellinger took advantage of the fresh start, catching his opponent in a headlock, and taking him down to his back. Ellinger was able to stave off multiple escape attempts and secured the third period fall. The win is Ellinger’s first varsity win! Congratulations Daniel! Western Boone received another forfeit at 132lbs to make the team score 39-0. Trey Fuston (138) and Lincoln Rose (144) then made quick work of each of their opponents. Both, Fuston and Rose, scored multiple takedowns before pinning each of their adversaries in under a minute. At 150lbs, Andres Morales came out aggressively and secured two seven-point scoring combinations to take a 14-1 lead into the second period. His foe chose to start the second period in the neutral position. Morales just needed 10 seconds to secure a third takedown and the technical fall. The victory was Morales first win as a varsity wrestler! Congratulations Andres! The Golden Eagles’ lone victory came in a hard-fought match against the Stars’ Gage Bolen (157). Bolen was able to defend against multiple pinning attempts but ended up losing the match 1-7, making the team score 56-3. The Stars received another forfeit at 165lbs before David Puckett (175) took the mat for the final contested bout of the evening. Puckett executed his attacks in the first period and went into the second period with a 6-1 lead. Puckett’s challenger chose to start the second period in the bottom position. The decision proved to be a good one for Puckett. Puckett was able to secure a second period pin with 0.1 seconds left on the clock! The dual meet concluded with Western Boone receiving yet another forfeit at 190lbs. The grapplers travel to Columbus, Indiana on Saturday (December 14) to compete in the Columbus North Invitational. Wrestling will start at 9:00am.
