On Saturday, December 7, 2024, the wrestling teams for each of the schools in the Sagamore Conference came to Western Boone to compete in five dual meets. The wrestling team competed well and walked away with a 3-2 record on the day. Kameron Mikesell (157) was the lone undefeated wrestler for the Stars. Mikesell dominated his opponents winning three matches by fall and two by technical falls. In the first dual meet, Western Boone faced off against the Lebanon Tigers. Both squads earned some hard-fought victories, but in the end, the Tigers edged out the Stars 37-33. Broden Wilson (165) wrestled a solid match to close the dual winning 12-5 over a seasoned opponent. In the second dual meet, the Webo grapplers were able to turn things around and pick up a win over a solid, well-coached team from Southmont. The final score was 41-27. Jaxsyn Mathews (113) picked up his first career varsity win with a second period pin. Congratulations Jaxsyn! Next, the Stars dominated the Warriors from Danville, winning the dual 60-23. Jacob Smith (215), Isaac El-Shahat (285), Jacob Anderson (126), Kameron Mikesell, Broden Wilson, David Puckett (175), and Heath Williams (190) all defeated their opponents by pin. Returning from a lunch break to wrestle always proves to be a challenge, and especially when facing a solid team from Crawfordsville. The wrestlers responded well to the challenge, but were unable to overcome the Athenians, losing 29-39. Cale Scagnoli (120), Trey Fuston (138), Kameron Mikesell, Heath Williams, and Jacob Smith each picked up wins in this meet. The final dual of the day was another dominate performance by the Stars. Western Boone won the match handily, 47-12. Jackson Bloss (106) kicked things off with a third period technical fall and Isaac El-Shahat capped things off with a second period pin. When the dust settled for the day, Jacob Anderson, Trey Fuston, Jacob Smith, and Heath Williams were able to collect four wins and suffered only one loss. Jaxsyn Mathews, David Puckett, Cale Scagnoli, and Broden Wilson each added three wins to their records. Jackson Bloss, Isaac El-Shahat, and Lincoln Rose each had two wins on the day. Braden Chambers was also able to pick up a win for the Stars. Western Boone will be back in action at home against Guerin Catholic on Tuesday (December 10). Action kicks off at 6:00pm.
