Potter signs with Taylor to continue football career

Western Boone senior Brandon Potter had always had a close connection with the Taylor football program. Two of his uncles, Wes and Caleb Nicley, played for the Trojans, and Potter remembers going to Now Potter is going have a choice to join the family legacy, signing with Taylor to continue his academic and athletic careers. “I’m most excited just to be able to keep playing football, that isn’t something everyone gets to say,” Potter said. “I am really excited to be able to continue playing the sport I love. It’s awesome to do it at Taylor, because I know it means so much to my family – my parents and grandparents especially – to say I get to go there. It’s awesome to know that my family is proud of me.” Taylor is an NAIA school and just finished 9-2 under head coach Aaron Mingo. Potter said along with the family connection, there were several things about the school that stood out to him. “It was always on my radar since my uncles played there, and it was always close to home,” Potter said. “When I had the opportunity to go to some camps and stuff there and talking to their coaches, it was always a lot of fun.” Potter was 83 for 141 this year, throwing for 1,014 yards, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also rushed for 306 yards and five touchdowns. freestar For his career, he threw for more than 1,800 yards and 19 touchdowns. I think they liked my ability to see and read the field,” Potter said. “I fit in well with guys and I like to be a good leader. I think that’s something that strikes some coaches.” Before heading off to college, Potter said there are a few things he wants to continue to improve on before heading to the next level. “My speed is the big thing,” Potter said. “I worked on it a lot last off-season and I think that helped me a little bit this season. I think moving on, getting faster and faster will help me, especially in a triple-option offense.” As he reflects back on his time at Western Boone, Potter said there are several things he will remember about being a Star. “The relationships are what stand out,” Potter said. “It’s a cliche to say that high school football is different and you make a lot of great relationships, but I truly believe WeBo is just different. The relationships with coaches, teammates, reporters, just everyone around the program. It’s such a blessing (at WeBo).” Potter plans on studying exercise science and business.
