The Varsity Boys Basketball had their season/home opener this past Saturday as they hosted the Rossville Hornets. This was a back-and-forth contest and game of runs, and the Hornets finished with an 8-2 run to win 57-56. The Stars showed great effort for 32 minutes and played solid team basketball throughout the night. Gavin Hawkins had a game-high 23 points and Quinn Westerfeld chipped in 13 points. Marcus Fortner had 7 points and 6 rebounds, Tristyn Faulk had 7 points and game-high 13 rebounds, and Eli Mitchell had 6 points off the bench. The JV Stars had their first home game this past Saturday and fell short against an experienced Rossville JV team by the score of 60-48. The Stars came out strong offensively through the first quarter, but team defense was an issue the rest of the game and Rossville shot very well from the perimeter. Carson Nicley led the team with 10 points, Beau Sawyer had 9 points, and Reese Young had 9 points off the bench. Both teams next game will be Tuesday as we host Speedway with JV starting at 6pm.
