They have a great program and I am so excited to get down there and make an impact.” The Demon Deacons play in the NCAA Division I Atlantic Coast Conference and are coached by Randi Smart. Poeck said a lot of things about the school stood out to her. “The coaching staff really stood out,” Poeck said. “They were all so kind and they are really competitive and I like how Coach Smart has helped the program grow the last five years she’s been there. I met with the team on my visit and they were just so welcoming and kind people and it made me want to go there.” Poeck had 341 kills this past season, adding 269 digs and 52 blocks. She earned all-conference and all-state honors. freestar “Their coaches liked my athleticism and thinks I can bring a huge block and some great offense to the right side of the court,” Poeck said. “I’m just so excited to get there.” Poeck will have one more winter of club volleyball before heading down to Wake next year. She said there are a few things she is focused on in her game to make sure she is ready to go at the next level. “I am definitely going to work on creating more offense on the right side, because that is still a fairly new position for me,” Poeck said. “I want to continue to work on that, and continue to work on my passing like I have this past high school season.” Poeck transferred to WeBo this summer, and made the most of her time at the school, becoming one of just five Indiana Senior All-Stars in program history and helping the Stars to the state title. She said she will always be thankful for the Western Boone community and how they embraced her this year. “This completely went over and above my expectations for this year,” Poeck said. “I am so happy and glad that I came here. I am going to remember all the people. Coach Laura (Bragg) and the other coaches were so welcoming and kind and were such great coaches. My teammates have been some of my best friends and I will definitely be coming home from college to visit with them and everything. It’s been great.” Poeck plans on majoring in health and exercise science to go pre-med, as well as minoring in business. Will Willems is the Sports Editor of the Lebanon Reporter.
