On Saturday, December 3, 2022, the wrestling teams for each of the schools in the Sagamore Conference came to Western Boone to compete in five dual meets. The wrestling team competed well and walked away with a 3-2 record on the day. Three wrestlers, Mason Adams (145), Trevor Weakley (170), and Ethan Williams (182) went undefeated for the day. In the first dual meet, Western Boone faced off against the Lebanon Tigers. Both squads earned some hard fought victories, but in the end, Western Boone came out on top 37-36. The Stars were aided by a Jacob Anderson (113) pin near the end of the meet. That pin was also Anderson’s first career win as a varsity wrestler. Next, the Stars took on the reigning conference champions, the Southmont Mounties. Western Boone won six of the 11 contested match-ups, but came up just short, 38-40, of the win. Isaiah Garland (120) earned his first career win with a second period pin of his opponent. The third contest of the day was a lopsided victory for Western Boone. The grapplers defeated the Danville Warriors 66-18. All seven of Webo’s victories came via fall. After a short break for lunch, wrestling resumed with a dominate victory over the Crawfordsville Athenians. The Stars won nine of the 11 contested matches. Much excitement was provided in the final bout of the meet, when Kameron Mikesell (138) battled back from an early six point deficit to get a third period pin. The final dual meet of the day was a raucous clash between the Stars and the Chargers of North Montgomery. Unfortunately, the Chargers were able to edge out the Stars, 36-48. Evan Trent (152) and Jacob Anderson (113) each won four matches and only lost one for the day. Joshua Dickey (285), and Kameron Mikesell (138) each added three victories and two losses to their records. Trey Fuston (132), Andrew Manthey (160) both picked up a couple of victories. Benjamin Fortner (126) and Isaac Moore (106), fought hard all day and were able to pick up one win a piece. Congratulations to Aden Conner (132) who picked up his first wrestling victory in his life with a commanding 14-1 victory over his Crawfordsville opponent! The wrestling team will play host to the Golden Eagles of Guerin Catholic on December 6, 2022. Wrestling starts at 6:00pm.
