The Western Boone High School Cross Country teams travelled to Terre Haute Saturday night for some exciting racing in the Nike Town Twilight meet. This is one of the largest cross country races in the country for the weekend with 150 teams from all over the US competing. There were 3,198 runners in attendance Saturday evening. The course was lit up with giant lights for nighttime racing, and athletes wore bright colors, glow sticks, and glow paint while racing to loud music playing across the course. The JV girls raced first and Katrina Brewer crossed the finish line with a new Personal Record (PR), followed by Harmony Gilbrech who also ran for a new PR. The Boys Open race was next and Edoardo Carapia showed grit and determination crossing the finish line first for the Stars with a new PR. Aiden Lester came out strong and was seconds away from his Personal Best time. Alex Crockett came away with a new Life Time Best, followed by Brayden Schick who pushed through an injury for a new Life Time Best as well. Eli Bishop and Kole Nelson battled it out to the end of the race pushing each other with both athletes walking away with PR's. Brawn Puckett picked up the pace and ran for a Season Best time. The evening intensified after sunset as the athletes lit up the night with bright colors and flashing lights in the Girls Open race. Charlotte Stucky was first to cross the finish line for the Stars with a Season Best time followed by Joan Gearheart who ran a strong race for a new PR. Rosie Rogers showed great determination and ran a new Season Best time. Claire Torp lit up the course running a new PR, followed by Jaili Torp who also ran strong for a new PR. Adalyn Sartan shaved off over a minute from her previous best time for a new PR, and Jenna Twitty showed grit by pushing through an injury for a new PR as well. These athletes continue to work hard and that is reflected in their individual achievements. The Stars will travel to Southmont next Saturday to compete in the Sagamore Conference meet.
