The Western Boone 8th grade football team travelled to Southmont last evening and came away with a 24 - 8 victory. After a solid opening drive and conversion to take an early 8-0 lead, the Mounties would respond on a big play (plus conversion) to tie the score. That would be the lone bright spot for the Southmont offense as the Stars defense would adjust and shut them down for the remainder of the evening. Making key plays in the defensive effort were Charlie Jones, who would accumulate four tackles for loss and/or sacks and drive stopping plays in the backfield; the front three of Aerik Ranney, Cole Hurliman and Beau Sanders, who collectively closed down the interior; Tyson Riner making stops on the edge and Colton Mitchell, who would record two interceptions from the secondary. Offensively, the Stars were once again able to commit to patiently running the ball, controlling the clock and mixing in big plays. Tyson Riner would have a standout night running the offense, picking up plays through the air and with his legs. He was able to rush for two touchdowns, a two-point conversion and throw for another, while exploiting the perimeter of the Mountie defense throughout the game. Noah Baird was once again able to break 100 yards rushing, add a touchdown and keep the chains moving with his hard running. Colton Mitchell, Kane Jackson and Corbyn Wilt would add receptions (Wilt conversion), and Charlie Jones would add a key first down rushing. The Stars travel next week to take on the Danville Warriors. The 7th Grade Stars travelled to Southmont on Tuesday night to battle the Mounties and came away with a convincing 36-0 victory. The night started well for the Stars when Jackson Potter recovered the opening kick off to start the Stars in positive field position. The Stars jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead when Lukas Harrison ran for a touchdown and Ryder Devol threw a pass to Harrison for the 2 pt conversion. Scoring touchdowns for the Stars were Harrison (2), Devol, & Weston Richardson. Boggs added a 2 pt conversion and Devol threw another conversion to Warmoth to round out the scoring for the Stars. The Stars Defense shined on Tuesday night. Connor Palmer wreaked havoc in the Mountie backfield racking up multiple tackles for loss including a sack that forced a fumble that was recovered by Hayden Demaree. The Stars Defense of Caleb Douglas, Palmer, Demaree, Richardson, Drake Wagner, Tate Wood, Warmoth, Potter, Crew Gallimore, Kamden Talbert, and Braxton Roudebush didn’t allow a Mountie first down. The Stars travel to Danville on Monday to take on the Warriors. Kick off is set at 5:30 pm.
