The Junior High Cross Country team hosted their first meet of the season on Wednesday against Crawfordsville, South Montgomery and Tri-West. The girls ran first with Abigail Humphrey leading the Stars with a 6th place finish in a time of 14:53. Next across the line was 6th grader Alisha Manning in 15th place (17:56) followed by Britney Richwine in 16th place (18:55) and Bristol McCord in 21st with a 19:51. Without a 5th runner the Lady Stars were unable to score as a team but collectively put together a great effort. In the boys race it was Ari Smith chasing down the number one runner for 3 kilometers and despite closing the gap and making a last minute effort, he finished second in 12:28. 8th grader Owen Young, in his first season, finished 4th in 13:36, followed by a seasoned veteran Rex Stanley in 8th place with a new personal best time of 14:16. 6th grader Wyatt Delp finished 9th place (14:22), Hayden Trenary finished 16th place with a personal best (15:23), Nate Muir in 17th place (15:40) and in 25th place was Jacob Nance in at 19:10. The impressive effort from the boys team was good for a 1st place team finish with 39 points. This was an excellent start to the season and a great example of their work ethics everyday. They will continue to train for their next meet, the State Preview race at Terre Haute on September 7th.
