The Stars Varsity Baseball team hosted Danville on Wednesday evening and came away with 5-2 conference victory. Bryce Kopriva pitched a complete game and allowed 0 earned runs. The victory moved Kopriva’s season record to 4-0 and he currently has a 0.5 ERA. Kopriva allowed just 5 hits in the game and recorded 2 strikeouts. The Warriors put the ball in play but a tremendous team effort defensively behind Kopriva limited traffic for Danville all evening on the bases. Offensively there were no overwhelming stats, the team did what needed to be done when given opportunities. Owen Howe and Levi Stewart both had sacrifice bunts in big situations that allowed runners to move into scoring position. Hawkins, Westerfeld, and Wiley all recorded a hit against a very good Danville pitcher. The Stars have to remain focused as they travel to Danville on Thursday for the finale of this week’s conference series. The Webo JV Team fell to Danville in Game 1 of a Double header 4-3. Kahne Reid led Webo with 2 hits. Cale Scagnoli and Brennan Kopriva each drove in 1 run for the Stars. Reid and Kopriva each stole 3 bases each and Layton Yancey stole 1 after getting hit by a pitch. The Stars started slow and eventually fell to Danville by the score of 11-2 in Game 2. Cale Scagnoli led the Stars with 2 RBIs and Brennan Kopriva went 1-2 at the plate. The Stars did show patience at the plate drawing 7 walks with Evan Kiplinger and Jackson Long each getting 2 free passes. Layton Yancey stole 2 bases in the game. The JV Stars return to action on Tuesday when they welcome the Crawfordsville Athenians to town. First pitch is slated for 5:30.
