Lady Stars pick up 2nd Win against county rival in Varsity Softball

The Western Boone Lady Stars softball team traveled to Lebanon Wednesday evening to take on the Lady Tigers of Lebanon to attempt a series sweep and push their conference record to a perfect 4-0. While it wasn’t quite as comfortable as the previous evening the Stars did jus that getting the offense going early and hanging on to get the sweep with a 4-2 victory. Gabby Lewis again got the start and held the Tigers scoreless for 5 innings, she pitched 5 and 1/3 innings giving up 5 hits allowing 2 runs while striking out 1. Ally Lewis came in to get the save going 1 and 2/3 innings striking out 2 and walking 2. Kirstin McCormick came up with a big play in the bottom of the 7th with one out and the tying run at the plate McCormick made a diving catch in Left Field to hold the runner at first and put the Tigers down to their last out before Morganne Grant was able to haul in a pop fly at short for the final out. The Stars offense while not as hot as Tuesday evening was able to put 4 runs on the board 3 of which were in the first inning on consecutive RBIs by Morganne Grant, Mickey Burns and Ally Lewis. Gabby Lewis and Ally Lewis had 2 hits on the evening while Emma Shirley had 1 hit and 1 key reached on an error that started to first inning production. The Stars have earned a night off as they improved their record to 6-2 on the season and will host the McCutcheon Mavericks Friday evening at 5:30.
