The Western Boone wrestling team traveled to New Castle to compete in the New Castle Invitational. The Stars went 1-4 for the day. Mason Adams led the team, going undefeated for the day. Jacob Smith also had a good day, winning four matches and only losing one. The day started with one of the top-ranked teams in the state, the Starfires of South Adams High School. Webo lost 18-52. The meet started off well with Jacob Smith bumping up to the 215lbs weight class. The out-sized Smith dominated his opponent, winning by technical fall (19-2). Cale Scagnoli (106) defeated his opponent by major decision (13-5). Jacob Anderson (120) earned a 7-5 decision over his opponent. Mason Adams (150) rounded out the winners for the Stars with a first period pin. Things didn’t get any easier when the grapplers faced a tough team from Center Grove. Trey Fuston (138) and Mason Adams were the lone victors for the Stars. Fuston won in a third period pin. Adams dispatched his opponent with another first period fall. The final score was 12-69. In the third dual of the day, the Stars rebounded and competed well against the Bulldogs of Centerville. Unfortunately, they came up just short, losing 36-38. Cale Scagnoli, Isaac Moore, and Mason Adams each won via first period pin. Isaac needed a mere 15 seconds to get the fastest victory for the day. Lincoln Rose (138) fought hard and had a second period victory to show for it. David Puckett and Jacob Smith also walked away with victories. The fourth meet was another tough one for the team as they faced the New Castle Trojans. Winning wrestlers for the Stars were Mason Adams, Jacob Smith, Cale Scagnoli, and Drew Williams (157). The final score was 24-57. Western Boone ended on a high note with a solid 54-30 victory over the Knights of Northeastern. Nate Moore (126), Isaiah Garland (132), Trey Fuston, Lincoln Rose, Mason Adams, Drew Williams, Braedyn Mathews (165), Jacob Smith, and Jackson Jones (285) were all triumphant for Webo. Jackson Jones earned his first varsity win of his career by pinning his opponent in the first period. Congratulations Jackson! The Stars will get a much-needed break from competition. They won’t be competing again until after Christmas, when they travel to Connersville for the two-day Spartan Classic tournament on December 28.
