On Tuesday, the Western Boone wrestling team traveled to Noblesville to take on the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles. The Stars had little trouble defeating the undermanned Eagles. WeBo won six of nine contested matches in the varsity competition in route to a 60-17 victory. Things started off in the 150lbs weight class. Drew Williams had a solid performance, defeating his opponent with a first period fall. At 157lbs, Mason Adams quickly won his match, needing just 33 seconds to win by pin. Heath Williams (165) ran into a tough opponent and fell to him in the first period. Next, David Puckett (175) got things back on track with a solid second period victory. Western Boone then benefited from three forfeits in a row. Jacob Smith (190), Joshua Dickey (285), and Cale Scagnoli (106) each came prepared to battle, but instead saw their hands raised, without contest. Isaac Moore (113) then continued his winning ways, easily defeating his opponent in 49 seconds, before Jacob Anderson benefitted from a fourth Golden Eagles’ forfeit at 120lbs. Nate Moore (126) continued to show much improvement and inched closer to his first victory, but unfortunately succumbed to his challenger in the second period. At 132lbs, Isaiah Garland fought hard against an opponent who is ranked 10th in the state. Garland refused to quit, and was able to avoid being pinned, but did get defeated via technical fall. Trey Fuston (138) and Kameron Mikesell (144) ended the varsity competition with solid first period pins over their challengers. In Junior Varsity action, Lincoln Rose (138) and Drew Cox (144) each cruised to victory with pins over their adversaries. Aden Conner (138) managed to wrestle a full match but came up short losing 5-10. In his continuous effort to improve, Nate Moore bumped up a weight class to wrestle a second time, but regrettably came up short, losing by pin in the third period. The wrestlers will be back in action on Saturday, December 9, when they travel to Columbus North for five dual meets. Wrestling starts at 9:00am.
