The Western Boone Stars took on Speedway Tuesday evening in their first debut in the varsity gym, and both the 7th and 8th grade teams came away with impressive victories. The 8th grade Stars defeated Speedway in two sets, winning 25-11 in the first and 25-15 in the second. A majority of the Stars’ points came from strong serving, an area the team has continued to emphasize during practice. Quinn Cunningham recorded the longest serving streak of the night for the Stars, serving five in a row with four of those being aces and adding easy points to the scoreboard. Corah Edwards also put together an impressive five-serve streak, recording three aces along the way. Emery Clements, Phoebe Bruder, and Riley Cervi also contributed multiple strong serves and aces throughout the match amongst many others. Serving can make or break a team, and the Stars have put in a tremendous amount of work developing consistent, aggressive serves during practice. That hard work is certainly paying off when it matters most during games. Defensively, the Stars switched up some things to strengthen their back row, a strategy that worked well during the tournament this past weekend and continued to be effective Tuesday evening. Alivia Adkins continues to work hard, hustle even harder, and improve with every practice and game. Her dedication has shown game after game. She wants to be on the court, and she has certainly earned her spot there through her effort and determination. Offensively, the Stars’ hitters continue to play aggressively at the net while improving their ball placement, coverage, and blocking. As the season progresses, the team continues to see more blocks and kills. The front row has been a major strength, keeping balls in play, making smart decisions, and maintaining control at the net. Overall, the Stars played a great match against Speedway and continue to show the results of their hard work and commitment to playing together as a team. With the season now halfway through and conference play approaching, the Stars remain focused and ready to keep battling. Next up, the Stars are ready to take on the Bruins Thursday night! Go Stars!
