The Western Boone 6th Grade Volleyball team opened its season with an exciting three-set victory over Southmont. The Stars came out with plenty of energy in their first match of the year, taking the opening set 25-20. Southmont answered in the second set, as a few serving errors hurt Western Boone and allowed the Mounties to even the match with a 25-19 win. In the deciding third set, the Stars showed their fight. After falling behind early, Western Boone battled back and finished strong, earning a 15-12 come-from-behind victory to secure its first win of the season. It was a great all-around team effort, with the girls continuing to learn, gain confidence, and become more comfortable on the court throughout the night. Everlee Hubble was dominant from the serving line, while Alaina Quilter provided a spark with her energy and willingness to step into whatever role the team needed. Following the official match, the teams played an additional game to give more players an opportunity to gain valuable match experience. Olive Jackson made the most of the opportunity, putting together an impressive run from the serving line that included six straight aces. The Stars head into Labor Day weekend with a 1-0 record and plenty of momentum after a great start to the season. Western Boone returns to action Tuesday at 6 p.m. for its first home match of the season against Clinton Prairie.
