The Western Boone 8th grade Stars defeated the visiting South Montgomery Mounties last evening by a score of 36-6. With a predetermined shortened game length due to a delayed start and thunderstorms in the area, the Stars focused on efficiency and maximizing the reduced opportunities they would have. The Stars took the ball to start the game and Levi Adkins would cap the opening drive with a touchdown, as the offense would survive an early injury to quarterback Carson Nicley and see Jack Mallory take the reins and still be able to execute. The Stars would score on every drive of the first half, hitting several big plays including a trick play in the final 4 seconds when Carson Nicley would find Layne Bull for a 33-yard touchdown to end the half. Also scoring for the Stars would be Mallory (2 touchdowns), Adkins (2 touchdowns) and Dane Allen with a two-point conversion reception. Defensively, the Stars would mostly contain the Mounties offense, allowing only one big play on the night. An interception by Layne Bull and late sack by Brayden Henson would highlight the defensive effort that only allowed 6 points and saw several players perform well in the second half and stop the Mounties lone drive of the third quarter. The Stars will wrap up their season on Monday when they host the Danville Warriors. The 7th grade Stars took on the Southmont Mounties Tuesday night after a one hour and thirty minute weather delay. The Stars came out sluggish against the visitors as the Mounties recovered 2 onside kicks and the Stars struggle to tackle the bigger running backs of Southmont resulting in an 18-8 loss and dropping their record to 3-3. Noah Baird ran the ball hard for the Stars and Ty Riner completed 2/3 passes 1 for a first down to Klay Mikesell for a first down and 1 for a two point conversion to Colton Mitchell. Kane Jackson had the lone TD for the Stars. The Stars wrap up their season on Monday next week (10/2) as they welcome the Danville Warriors to town.
