Varsity Baseball Opens North Putnam Series With a Win

Western Boone started their MAC Conference series by hosting North Putnam on Tuesday evening; the Stars came away with a 6-2 victory. Quinn Westerfeld pitched a complete game and allowed zero earned runs while giving up just 6 hits and striking out two batters. Westerfeld was extremely efficient, getting through all seven innings with just 81 pitches. Kane Jackson helped Westerfeld with two diving catches in right field. Offensively, the Stars had another good outing at the plate. Beau Sawyer lead from the two-hole going three for three and had two RBIs. Quinn Westerfeld really helped himself out by going two for three with an RBI of his own. Layton Yancey provided two hits, one of which was a double. Owen Howe and Easton Nance both recorded doubles of their own; Nance's hit drove in two runs. Jack Mallory and Levi Stewart both had singles, Mallory recorded one RBI. Zach Sprong demonstrated strong senior leadership by taking advantage of a pinch running opportunity. Westerfeld was named Player of the Game and Beau Sawyer was recognized for his outstanding performance. The Stars travel to North Putnam on Wednesday evening for game two of the conference series.
