The WeBo A & B Junior High Softball Teams both got a chance to play against the Southmont A Team on Tuesday night. The Stars A Team faced some good pitching and had a tough night at the plate in a 10-0 loss. Aleena Beck, Jayden Paris, and Kenzie Mikesell all singled for the Stars. Paris also had two stolen bases. Defensively, the Stars had some good plays including two outs on the base paths from throws by Jade Hobson at catcher to catch runners at 2nd and one at 3rd, both to shortstop Cora Reagan. Reagan would also team with Mikesell to catch a pop fly and throw out a runner before she could tag up at 3rd base. Sullie Smith made another catch in foul territory from her 1st base position. Paris started on the mound and only gave up 4 earned runs while striking out 3. In the second game, the Stars B Team would get their chance against the Mounties’ A Team. They ended the top of the 1st inning with a double play. Shortstop Riley Cervi would throw to 1st base Sullie Smith on a grounder for an out, then Smith would fire the ball back to 3rd base Mikesell who would tag out the runner advancing from 2nd. Addi Gregg would pitch all 4 innings, getting 4 strike outs. The offense was led by Josephine McNamee with two hits and Aubree Franklin with a double that she would stretch into a run following Southmont errors. Mikesell and Amelia Stambro also contributed hits. Ultimately, it was too steep a hill to climb and the girls fell 14-3 in 4 innings. The B Team is off until Friday’s games against McCutcheon while the A Team will face Clinton Prairie on Thursday.
