Varsity Baseball Bounces Right Back! The Stars struggled mightily Wednesday night at North Montgomery, but 21 hours later the Varsity Baseball team looked like the team the coaches believe them to be! Western Boone defeated the Blackhawks of Sheridan by a final score of 6-1. Levi Stewart pitched for the Stars. Stewart threw a complete game allowing just 1 earned run and giving up only 3 hits. The senior right hander was able to strike out 7 Blackhawks along the way. Stewart was not only locked in on the mound, but at the plate as well, where he recorded two hits in his two at-bats. The Stars defense was certainly a key to victory for Western Boone. For the first time this season, the Stars were perfect on defense and committed zero errors. Outfield play by Mallory, Sawyer, Reid, and Long was excellent throughout the contest. Mason Foster anchored the defense from behind the plate. Infielders Westerfeld, Howe, Yancey, and Nance played tough all evening, including a huge 5-4-3 double play to promptly stifle Sheridan's attempt to put runners on base. Offensively, the Stars were finally really aggressive, and their approach paid off as they recorded 6 hits in the contest, which is a season high. Levi Stewart and Easton Nance each recorded two hits; Nance also tacked on 2 RBIs. Quinn Westerfeld recorded a hit and so did Kane Jackson; Jackson is a freshman, and this was his first varsity hit! Beau Sawyer recorded an RBI via a Quality At-Bat. Caleb Keyes, Luke Shirley, and Zach Sprong all played their roles through pinch running opportunities. Western Boone has Friday off before they play a unique Double Header on Saturday. The Stars play at home Saturday morning against Pike at 10:00 am. On Saturday evening both the JV and Varsity teams will travel to Bethesda for a 5:30 JV start followed by the varsity game.
