JV stars fight hard but come up short in bottom of the 7th The Western Boone’s JV squad outhit North Montgomery 6–5 on Wednesday, but it still wasn’t enough in a tough 6–5 loss. Liam Whiteley led the way at the plate with two hits. He also threw 3 innings striking out 6 and picking off 2. Western Boone got off to a rough start and found themselves down four runs after the third inning. They didn’t quit, though, slowly working their way back with a few key hits and some patience at the plate. Western Boone kept battling and finally tied things up in the sixth. Jackson Bloss came through with a clutch single, and Masyn Hoskins drew a walk to help even the score. On the mound, Sam Rausch was strong in relief, striking out nine over 4⅓ innings and giving up just one unearned run on one hit. Whiteley started the game and struck out six in three innings. Rausch also drove in three runs to lead Western Boone offensively. Klayton Mikesell showed good patience at the plate, drawing two walks as part of the team’s seven total. Western Boone made a solid push late, but the early deficit ended up being too much to overcome. The stars look to bounce back Saturday against Bethesda.
