The B team got back on track last night with a 7-2 win over McCutcheon. The team put runs on the board in each of the 4 innings while shutting out McCutcheon after the first inning. Addi Gregg pitched great in another full game performance, giving up no earned runs while striking out two and walking zero. And the defense had her back. Riley Cervi caught a pop fly at 2nd base and threw to Aleena Beck covering the bag from shortstop to complete a double play when the Mavs runner failed to tag up. Sullie Smith caught a fly ball in foul territory. Lexi Lenehan had an incredible throw from her knees in center field to 3rd base to prevent a runner from advancing. Beck would also make a huge catch on the run for the final out of the game. On the offensive side, the team was able to take advantage of some errors and steal their way around the base paths. In all, there were 6 stolen bases and numerous passed balls that the Stars capitalized on. Lenehan had two stolen bases, while Gregg, Cervi, Saylor Princell, and Josephine McNamee each had one. Kenzie Mikesell and Cervi each had RBI’s. In the A game, the Stars would dig themselves into a 9-0 hole before rallying in the top of the fourth inning. They would fall just short, going down 9-8. Defensively, the Stars had several outstanding plays that stood out. Kenzie Mikesell, making her first start at 3rd, made a great play on a hard ground ball. Josephine McNamee caught a fly ball in left field, and Jayden Paris made a great catch on a line drive at shortstop. Cora Reagan would pitch the whole game in the loss. McNamee and Mikesell led the team with two hits each, including one each off the Mavs ace pitcher. Lexi Lenehan and Reagan would each hit balls to the fence in the air. Addi Gregg and Jade Hobson would also collect hits. Both teams will be working hard at practice Wednesday before traveling to Danville Thursday for a 5:30 start. They are improving and need to keep working on the little things to really catch fire.
