The junior high softball teams opened their season at home against MAC Conference foe Greencastle last night. The A game was scoreless until the 3rd inning when Greencastle was able to post 2 runs. Another 2 in the 4th, and a 5 run burst in the 5th led to a 9-1 loss. While the WeBo bats started the season cold, Jade Hobson had a double and would score the Stars only run on a wild pickoff throw. Lexi Lenehan also had a hit and put out a runner at first with a strong throw from right field. Sullie Smith, playing banged up, made a great catch in foul territory and also had a hit. Aleena Beck, Kenzie Mikesell, and Cora Reagan, who pitched all 5 innings, also found their way on base. Josephine McNamee had a strong start behind the plate, picking off a runner. The A team is back in action at 5:30 Wednesday night against Crawfordsville. The B game was a high scoring affair with the Stars taking the win in dramatic fashion with a 14-13 walkoff win. Greencastle jumped out to a 3-run lead and added another 10 runs through the 2nd and 3rd innings. The Stars were able to put up 6 in the 2nd before tying the game in the bottom of the third. Mae Wilson then stepped to the plate and drove in Josephine McNamee for the winning run. Aubree Franklin and Addi Gregg combined on the mound for the win. Also contributing to the Stars’ 9 hits were Saylor Princell, Amelia Stambro, Aleena Beck, and Gregg, including a two run double. Riley Cervi and Nova Crahen also got on base and contributed to the team’s 11 stolen bases. The B team is at Sheridan Tuesday night for a 6 PM game.
