Stars showcase depth to defeat Cougars in JH Wrestling

The Western Boone Junior High wrestling team hit the road Monday night to take on the North Putnam Cougars in a hard-fought dual that showcased the Stars’ depth and firepower across the lineup. Western Boone came out strong from the opening whistle. At 75 pounds, Jace Anderson picked up a forfeit to give the Stars an early 6-0 lead. Ty Williamson followed with a pin in just 21 seconds at 80 pounds, building momentum early. After dropping the 85-pound bout by forfeit, the Stars responded with a dominant stretch in the middle weights. Austin Harlow (90) recorded a pin in 3:11, and Gunner Shirley (95) added a forfeit win. Griffin Johanson (100) needed just 41 seconds to secure his fall, while TJ McKinney (106) continued the surge with a pin in 1:08. Nate Muir (113) and Brooklyn Bailey (120) both collected forfeit victories to extend the team lead. North Putnam found some success at 126 and 132 pounds, earning back-to-back pins, but Western Boone answered immediately. Gage Fields (138), Ty Sanders (144), Silas Boggs (150), and Aleena Beck (157) all received forfeits to keep the Stars comfortably in front. After a forfeit loss at 165, Kamden Talbert (175) added another six team points with a forfeit victory. The upper weights sealed the dual in dominant fashion. Connor Palmer (190) secured a pin in 32 seconds, Drake Wagner (215) stuck his opponent in just 16 seconds, and Caleb Douglas (275) closed out the varsity slate with a 1:15 fall. Western Boone finished the varsity dual with a commanding 96-24 victory. In exhibition action, the Stars continued to shine. Jayden Vaughn earned a quick 16-second pin. Jace Anderson returned to the mat and picked up another fall in 42 seconds. Carter Crahen battled to a strong pin in 3:58. North Putnam claimed wins in two exhibition bouts, as SJ Hitch Jr. and Porter White dropped hard-fought matches by fall. The Stars will be back in action on Wednesday when the host Brownsburg East, Cascade, and Tri-West in a 4-way dual meet. Wrestling starts at 5:30 PM.
