The Seventh Grade Boys Basketball team dominated at their tournament this weekend. The first round saw the Stars defeat Southmont 45-12. WEBO jumped out to a 28-10 halftime lead by taking advantage of their size and pounding the ball inside to Wyatt Redman. The Mounties had no answers for Redman, who scored a game-high 16 points. The Stars had ten players finish in the scoring column with a balanced attack and consistent effort throughout the game. The defensive intensity speaks for itself as WeBO only allowed five field goals. Scorers: Redman 16, Eli Pastore 6, Crosby Kinsler 5, Cannon Dunk 4, Corbin Eckert 3, Bryson Potter 3, Evan Dexter 2, Blake Stokes 2, Spencer Worrel 2, Casey Richardson 2. The championship game gave the Stars a quick rematch against North Mont. The two teams matched up earlier in the week when the Stars defeated the Chargers 41-37, but struggled to put the Chargers away. That would not be the case in the championship game. Western Boone came out ready to play. Their defensive pressure opened up a lot of quick buckets. When slowed into running their half-court offense, the Stars did what good teams do, they moved the ball to where they had an advantage. They pushed the ball inside to Redman. As the Chargers collapsed on Redman inside, Bryson Potter took advantage from outside, scoring from deep and trying to keep the defense honest. Casey Richardson looked for his opportunities to attack the basket and did an excellent job of drawing the defense in. Richardson finished with seven points and numerous assists. Despite putting up 51 points, this game was won with defense. Cannon Dunk was a wrecking ball every time he stepped on the court. He and Corbin Eckert effectively locked down the Chargers’ top threat. The Chargers struggled with the disruption and turned the ball over often with their off guard being forced to bring the ball up the floor. WEBO held a 45-26 lead starting the fourth quarter and held off a late Chargers run to win the Sugar Creek Classic 51-40. Scorers: Redman 22, Potter 14, Richardson 7, Dunk 4, Worrel 2, Pastore 2 Western Boone hosts Clinton Prairie Tuesday evening at 6 o’clock. The 8th grade Stars split their two games over the weekend in the annual Sugar Creek Classic, showing resilience after a tough morning start. Game 1: Southmont 36, Western Boone 29 In the opening game, the Stars struggled to find any rhythm offensively. An early-morning tip and Southmont’s disciplined zone defense kept Western Boone’s normally high-powered attack contained throughout the contest. Despite the challenges, Jackson Potter continued his strong season, leading all scorers with 15 points. Ryder DeVol added 6 points, while Lukas Harrison and Tate Fields each contributed 4. Game 2: Western Boone 54, Crawfordsville 40 The second game brought a much different performance, as the Stars looked far more like themselves. Pushing the pace, sharing the ball, and attacking on both ends, Western Boone responded with a convincing 54-40 win over Crawfordsville. Potter again led the charge with 24 points, delivering an efficient and dominant effort. Fields added 11, Harrison 6, Linton 7, and Anderson chipped in 3 as the Stars controlled the matchup from start to finish. With the weekend split, the Stars now turn their attention to a road matchup at Clinton Prairie on Tuesday, looking to build momentum as the season continues.
