Western Boone came out with excitement for their home opener against the Southmont Mounties on Thursday night, but they did not come out with the physical and mental intensity needed to win the game. The Stars couldn’t seem to find the back of the net with their shots on goal and connected passes, and this resulted in falling short 0-4. The Stars didn’t completely miss opportunities to make passes and connections on the field with one another. Senior Addie Jones (captain) and junior Kale Conner made several combination passes in the center of the field, as well as sophomore Rebecca Rustin and senior Cadey Ross, which all created great opportunities for us on the field! It was great for the coaches to see this work happening in the game, as this has been a key component of their practices early this season. Freshmen Makenna Harrison, Grace Maners, and Kenzlei Matthews all earned playing time in the varsity match today and got a feel for the speed of the play with the team. We anticipate that the underclassmen of this team will really step up and perform greatly through our current season and seasons to come! Following the varsity match, the JV team got to play a 30 minute half to get a feel for the game speed and play. The JV team defeated the Mounties 3-0, with Rebecca Rustin scoring two and Ki'erra Koch scoring one. There were many other shots on goal in this match, new goalies each got a chance to play in goal, and the team altogether played well. The Stars will train this weekend in preparation for their busy game schedule next week where they take on Cascade Tuesday (away), Tri-West Thursday (home), and North Montgomery Saturday (away). Be sure to keep up with our games and come support when you can!
