The Western Boone Varsity Boys Basketball team traveled to Southmont Friday Night in Sagamore Conference action. They ran into a hot shooting Mountie squad that shot 57.8% for the game. The Stars found themselves behind 15-8 after the first quarter. Southmont was able to push the lead to 12 points midway through the second. The Stars at that point locked down defensively and hit some shots to close in on Southmont’s lead of 26-21 at half time. After three quarters the score was tied at 39. With two minutes remaining in the game the Stars continued to battle trailing 55-54. Costly mistakes then lead to a 62-56 loss. Leading the scoring were: Jonathan McAtee with 29, Garrett Morton with 11, Seth McClaskey with 9, Casey Baird with 5 and Conner Garrity with 2 points. Playing but not scoring were Jeremiah Willams and Kaden Bennington . The next game will be Saturday night when the Stars travel to Fountain Central.
Another slow start led to another loss against conference opponent Southmont last night for our JV boys’ basketball team. The final score was 50-40. The team found themselves down 16-7 at the end of the first quarter and then played about even with South the rest of the game. The Stars knocked down more outside shots in the 2nd half and played better team defense to end up outscoring South 19-17 in the 2nd half. Kaden Bennington had a game-high 15 points. Philip Talbott and Carter Hanna each had 9 points.
