News · Girls Cross Country competes in Regionals; Knoper advances to semi-state

The Western Boone H.S. girls cross country team competed at the IHSAA
Regional meet at White River Elementary in Noblesville on Saturday
morning.  The Lady Stars ran very well in a meet that featured a number
of top, state-ranked teams.

Audrey Knoper ran strongly and led the way for the Lady Stars with a
16th-place finish in 18:58.0.  By virtue of being among the top ten
runners from non-advancing teams, Knoper advanced to next weekend’s
semi-state meet as an individual.  Katheryn Rutherford also ran very
well and finished in a personal best time of 19:29.4 in 27th.  Her
excellent performance nearly qualified her for semi-state, narrowly
missing by just 3 seconds.  Sydney Haag ran her best time of the season,
finishing in 20:51.7 in 62nd. Rounding out the scoring team were
Samantha Jones and Emma Mitchell who both achieved personal bests in
their final race of the season.  Jones improved her time by 48 seconds
and finished in 21:36.0 in 78th, and Mitchell lowered her time by 36
seconds to finish in 21:43.7 in 81st.  Emily Parsons was 87th in 25:39.0.

State-ranked #2 Carmel won with 44 points, followed by #7 North Central
with 85, Pike with 108, #11 Noblesville with 114, and #18 Westfield with
123.  The Lady Stars were 9th with 218 points, unexpectedly beating
Indianapolis Cathedral, which was 10th with 232.  The girls’ finish was
the highest team placing for a Western Boone team at this regional meet.

Knoper will compete next Saturday at the IHSAA Semi-State meet in
Shelbyville.
