The Western Boone basketball team looked to finish the regular season on a high note before Sectionals. The road to Sectionals started last Friday for the Stars. They faced the Cascade Cadets for senior night on Friday and traveled to Sheridan on Saturday night.
On Friday, the Stars started a little sluggish in the first half, carrying a 5-point lead heading into the break. The Stars looked to turn up the pressure in the third quarter. The Stars went with a smaller lineup, adding Sophomore guard Garrett Morton to help spark the Stars. The pressure helped the Stars win the third quarter 26-12 and cruise to a 75-61 win on Senior night. It was a balanced attack from the Stars, led by by Cortez Stoudemire with 36 points on 72% shooting. Connor Hole (12), Spencer Wright (11), and Jonathan McAtee (11), all scored in double figures as well.
Western Boone looked to carry the momentum to Saturday’s game against the Sheridan Blackhawks. The Stars jumped out on the Blackhawks in the first quarter, leading 19-7. After a 20 point second quarter from the Blackhawks, the Stars were able to contain Sheridan in the second half to cruise to a 72-40 win. The Stars were led by Cortez Stoudemire with 20 points, followed by Connor Hole with 19 points. Spencer Wright contributed 13 points and Jake Jones added 9 points respectively.
The Stars will take on a potential Sectional 38 Semi-Final opponent in Clinton Prairie on Friday starting at 7:30 PM.
