Boys Junior Varsity Basketball, Boys Varsity Basketball · Stars fall short in rematch with Crawfordsville

The boys JV and varsity teams traveled to Crawfordsville Tuesday night to take on the Athenians. The Stars look to make it two wins over Crawfordsville this season. The Stars defeated the Athenians in the Sugar Creek Classic Championship in January.

The JV team started off the night in a close game. The Stars struggled to score in the second half, which led to the Athenians to build their lead. The Stars had a balance scoring effort, but was not enough as Crawfordsville tops Webo 42-25. Mitch Miller returned from injury to lead the Stars with 8 points. Blake Miller had 6, Garrett Morton had 5, and Corbin Jones did a nice job of competing in the paint.

The varsity team looked to complete the sweep at Crawfordsville. The Stars started sluggish on the night which set the tone for the rest of the evening. As the Stars were able to shoot well in the Sugar Creek Classic, the script was flipped this time around. The Stars left a lot of points on the free throw line and were not able to slow down the solid shooting from Crawfordsville. The Stars fell to the Athenians 67-60. The Stars were led by Cortez Stoudemire with 27 points and Spencer Wright with 20 points. The Stars did some good things on the night. They were able to cause 15 turnovers, which is 5 more than Crawfordsville’s average. The Stars had success crashing the offensive boards with 8 offensive rebounds.

The Stars look to bounce back on Thursday as they travel to Speedway to take on the Sparkplugs for a JV/Varsity double header.
