The 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams ended their season on Saturday as they participated in the Western Boone Invitational. The invitational consisted of the Speedway Sparkplugs, the Sheridan Blackhawks, and the Tri-West Bruins. The 7th grade finished runners-up and the 8th grade finished 4th. The 7th grade Stars were runners-up in the tournament getting into the championship game by beating Speedway 38-21. The Stars played great defense and passed the ball well. A host of Stars scored for the team. The championship game proved to be too much for the Stars as they couldn’t handle Tri-West’s press and didn’t get many shots. Tri-West led the whole way and Webo lost 18-60.
The 8th grade Stars faced the Speedway Sparkplugs in opening round. The Stars struggled to find their shots and were outsized under the basket. The Stars tried to make a late rally but couldn’t erase the deficit, falling 49-29. Carter Elkins had 10 points, Carter Hanna added 8 and Jack Kinsel added 7. In the consolation game, the Stars played the Sheridan Blackhawks. The Stars played hard and battled all 4 quarters. The Stars went on a run, led by some big baskets by Jack Kinsel early in the 4th quarter. The Stars held a 2-point lead going into final 2 minutes but a couple turnovers gave the Blackhawks a couple scores to take lead back. The Blackhawks ended the Stars season 40-34. The Stars were led by Carter Hanna with 13 points, Jack Kinsel had 8, and Phillip Talbot had 6.
