The boys’ freshmen basketball team and the girls’ JV basketball team traveled to Tri-West Saturday morning for their invitational tournament. The freshmen team faced a tough Brownsburg team to start the day. The Stars struggled to complete defensive stops, giving up offensive rebounds and second chance points. The Stars struggled to shoot the ball effectively as the size differential became an issue for the Stars, leading to a 43-20 defeat. They fought hard to find good looks but their shots would not fall. Luke Barta led the Stars with 6 points. Blake Miller and Kaden Bennington added 5 respectively. In game two, the Stars faced South Putnam. The Stars defense played a factor as they held South Putnam to 22 points. The Stars struggled to get any of their shots to fall as energy played a role in the second game. The Stars fell to South Putnam 22-19. Kaden Bennington led the Stars with 9 points.
The girls JV team competed in the Tri-West Invitational as well Saturday morning. The first game, the Stars faced the Tri-West Bruins. The Stars could not take care fo the ball as the Bruins controlled both ends of the court. The Stars fell to the Bruins 46-16. The Stars faced the Danville Warriors in the second game. This was the second time in less than 24 hours that the Stars and Warriors faced each other. The Stars were not able to capture the lead at any point of the game, ultimately falling to the Warriors 26-18.
The freshmen team will be back in action Wednesday when they host the Clinton Prairie Gophers at 6:00 PM. The girls JV team will be back in action Tuesday as they host the Rossville Hornets at 6:00 PM.
