Multiple Teams · Stars near perfect night against the Hot Dogs

The boys and girls JV basketball and boys freshmen teams were in action Thursday night. The Stars were the host for the Frankfort Hot Dogs. The JV Lady Stars and the freshmen Stars were up first on the night.
The JV Lady Stars were in a scrappy contest on the night. Aggressive defense on both ends of the court created numerous turnovers and quick transitions but the Lady Stars led the entire game to come out with a win 36-19. The up tempo pace of the game caused difficulties for the girls to set up an offense. They were able to capitalize on good passing, post play, and fast breaks that helped them pick up the win. The Lady Stars continue to improve and create good chemistry with each other.
The freshmen team had their home debut against Hot Dogs. The Stars had some time off from game action as they have been off since December 12th and were anxious to be in action again. The Stars jumped out to a ten point lead at the break. Good offense and defense helped the Stars in the first half. The Stars continued their good play and showed some poise as the Hot Dogs came out in different defenses throughout the second half. Frankfort was unable to get their offense going as the Stars held them to 12 points in the second half, leading to a 40-25 victory for the Stars. The Stars had a good night of rebounding the ball. The Stars were led by Kaden Bennington with 14 points. Blake Miller added 7 points while Eli McClaine and Jake Taylor both had 5 points.
The JV boys team was the final game of the night. The Stars struggled to find a rhythm throughout the night on the offensive end. The Stars fell to the Hot Dogs 42-49. The Stars couldn’t get defensive stops when they needed it. While many of the Stars made contributions throughout the game, Garrett Morton and John Harlos led the Stars with 10 points. Seth McClaskey scored 9 and Connor Garrity added 8.
The JV teams will be back in action Saturday. The girls team will play at 12:00 PM against North Putnam. The boys team will play at 6:00 PM against Hamilton Heights. The freshmen team will play Wednesday against Hamilton Heights at 6:00 PM. All three of these games will take place here at Western Boone.
