The 7th and 8th grade girls basketball teams opened up their season Wednesday night. The Stars were on the road to Sheridan to face the Blackhawks. The 7th grade team fell to a talented Blackhawks team 48-17. The Stars had a slow start and could not overcome their deficit. The Stars showed improvement as the game went on. Leading the way for the Stars was Olivia Reagan with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Amaya Westerfeld pulled down 5 rebounds. Becca Keyes had 4 points and 3 steals.
The 8th grade team faced an even opponent as both teams started off slow in the first half. The Stars and Blackhawks turned up the scoring in the second half. The Stars fell behind in the 3rd quarter and needed some magic in the fourth quarter. The Stars rallied late, with a crucial 3-pointer by Lillie Cripe to get the Blackhawk lead to 1. The Stars were unable to complete the comeback, falling 21-20. The Stars were led by Alayna Christner with 5 points and 6 rebounds, Ki’erra Koch 5 points. The entire team played good defense.
The Stars will be back in action next Thursday as they travel down the road to face the Lebanon Tigers. Tip-off at 6:00 PM.
