The 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams travelled to Zionsville West Middle School Saturday morning to compete in the Boone County Tournament. The 7th grade boys basketball team faced the Zionsville West Eagles in the first game. Zionsville got a big early lead as Webo’s boys had no answer for their height. The final score was 16-53. The Stars faced Lebanon in the consolation game. Lebanon’s speed and defense forced too many turnovers for the Stars to get any offense going. Final score was 13-66.
The 8th grade boys’ basketball team was in action on Saturday morning at the Boone County Tournament. The Stars finished 0 -2 on the day, first losing to Zionsville West by a score of 56-28. The Stars fell in game two to Lebanon, 44-28. In the first game, the Stars were able to compete and keep the game tight early. Eventually, Zionsville West was able to assert themselves and pull away. Carter Hanna and Philip Talbott led the Stars with 9 a piece. In the second game, the Stars were able to compete throughout, only trailing by 7 early in the 4th quarter. Foul trouble eventually did the Stars in allowing Lebanon to pull away late making the deficit appear greater than the game was played. The Stars were balanced in scoring, led again by Carter Hanna and Philip Talbott at 8 each, Carter Elkins with 7 & Jack Kinsel added 5. With a focus on effort, attitude, energy, and having to adapt to a fill in coach on the fly, the entire team responded well & took a step forward as a group.
The Stars will be back in action Tuesday as they both face the Southmont Mounties. The 7th grade will host as the 8th grade will travel to Southmont. Game time is 6:00 PM.
