Boys Junior Varsity Basketball, Boys Varsity Basketball · Stars struggle in season opener

The Western Boone boys basketball teams opened their season Tuesday night as they traveled to Covington to take on the Trojans. After a slow start to the first half, the JV team found their rhythm in the 2nd half and started off their season with a 42-30 win over Covington. Marcus Stepp led the team in scoring with 21 points, Garrett Morton chipped in 10 points, and Seth McClaskey scored 5. Mitch Miller made many winning plays throughout the course of the game, and helped our team gain some separation throughout the 2nd half.

The varsity team traveled took on the 2-1 Trojans. The Stars struggled to make shots from the outside and gave up 79 points on the night to a talented Covington team. The final score on the evening was 42-79. There were signs of what can be this season in the second half, but there are a lot of things on both sides of the ball we need to improve upon. Cortez Stoudemire led the Stars in scoring with 23 points. Connor Hole was the second leading scorer with 10 points and 7 rebounds.

The Stars will be back in action Thursday and Friday. The JV and freshmen team will travel to Lebanon Thursday night. Freshmen will play at 6:00 PM and the JV team will play after the girl’s JV team. The varsity team will host Lebanon Friday night at 7:30 PM.
